What to Expect

You might be wondering, “What should I expect the first time I visit Ascension Lutheran Church?” We hope the answers to the following commonly asked questions will help you feel more comfortable the first time you are our guest at Ascension.

Does Ascension Lutheran like having visitors?

Yes! At Ascension we love it when people come as first-time guests to worship. It is our hope that at your first visit you feel welcome, and come away having met some of your fellow worshipers. We typically have hosts and hostesses who will greet you and answer any questions you may have. Pastor is also available in the lobby area before services and would be glad to meet you.

Is there an opportunity for Sunday school and Bible study on Sunday morning?

Yes! Each Sunday (with the exception of the month of August), Sunday school is offered for all ages from toddlers to adults. These classes meet from 9:45 am to 10:45 am.

Can I bring my child/children to worship at Ascension?

Yes! Ascension encourages intergenerational worship where children have the opportunity to hear God’s Word and sing His praises along with their family. However, we also have a nursery area next to our lobby where families can take younger children for a “break.” There are changing tables available in both the men’s and women’s restrooms as well.

What do most people wear to worship?

It is not required to wear a specific type of attire to attend worship at Ascension. Typically, worshipers dress more casually at our Saturday evening and Sunday 11 am services. At our Sunday 8:30 am service, many choose to wear their “Sunday best.” For instance, it is not uncommon for men to wear a tie at this service.

Are non-Lutherans welcome at Ascension?

Yes! All are welcome to worship at Ascension and hear God’s Word regardless of religious background. We do, however, take Holy Communion seriously. Worshipers who are members of other LCMS congregations are welcome to commune. For details, see the “What we believe” section of our website.

Which door is easiest to enter through?

Most worshipers choose to enter the building through the double red doors on Donovan Avenue directly across from Francis Park. These doors will lead up stairs to our lobby area.

Where do I park?

Like many churches in St. Louis city, Ascension does not have a parking lot that can accommodate our worshipers. On Sunday mornings, worshipers are asked to please park at a 45 degree angle from the curb with the vehicle’s rear passenger tire against the curb. There is also ample parking on the picturesque streets surrounding Ascension.

Is there handicap parking available?

Yes! Ascension has a small parking lot which can be entered from the alley off of Loran Avenue. Most spaces on this lot are reserved for those requiring handicap parking. There is also an elevator available just inside the door adjacent to this parking lot.

Is there coffee available?

Yes! There is complimentary coffee in our lobby area.
