Rev. Matthew Clark
Rev. Matthew Clark grew up attending Our Savior Lutheran in Fenton, Missouri. He graduated from Lutheran High School South in 1998. He then entered the Pre-Seminary program at Concordia University in Nebraska. Following graduation for Concordia Seminary in 2007, Pastor Clark was called to serve as associate pastor at Immanuel Lutheran in Waterloo, Illinois.
Pastor Clark has served as pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church since October of 2013. In addition to serving at Ascension Lutheran Church and Word of Life Lutheran School, pastor is also involved with KFUO radio where he is co-host of “Wrestling with the Basics” which airs on Saturday mornings at 9:05 a.m., and is also a guest on “The Bible Study” at 10 a.m. on the first Monday of each month. Pastor also occasionally writes for Creative Worship for the Lutheran Parish and is a PALS facilitator. When not eating Ted Drewes frozen Custard, pastor enjoys
cycling, gardening, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
Pastor’s wife, Lisa, serves at Concordia Publishing House as a copy editor and writer. Pastor and Lisa have been blessed with two children, Noah and Anna. They both love attending Word of Life Lutheran School.
Sherry was born at Scott AFB, IL and has lived in the St. Louis area all her life. She has been a member of Ascension Lutheran Church since 1977. Her 3 children all attended Word of Life Lutheran School and graduated from Lutheran High School South. She has worked for Ascension Lutheran Church since 1989 and recently became the Administrative Assistant. “I love to be of service to people and am truly blessed to be a part of the staff here at Ascension.”
Pam Fox was born in St. Clair, MO and has lived in the St. Louis area all her life. She is married to Jim and has two adult daughters, Jennifer and Melissa. The Fox family have been members at Ascension since 1988. Pam feels very blessed to not only belong to, but also be employed by Ascension.
Choir Director & Organist
James (Jim)R. Thielker, was born on February 26, 1935 in St. Louis. He attended Holy Cross Lutheran School and Roosevelt High School. After graduating from high school in 1953, he attended Valparaiso University prior to serving in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Jim has always loved the organ and piano and has played from a very young age. He and his wife, Judy, who were married on 8/30/1957, have three children, Sharon, David & Susan and eight grandchildren. Jim loves what he does as organist and choir director at Ascension and is a blessing to the congregation and staff.

Wanda Kuntz holds a Master of Music degree from Webster University. She grew up in Maplewood where her parents owned a music store. Wanda enjoys directing the Ascension worship team, teaching piano, and writing/recording original songs and piano arrangements.
Barbara Hartung has been a member of Ascension for approximately 28 years. She married David Hartung in 1968 and they have 3 grown children, Jill, Beth and David Jr., who all attended Lutheran grade school and high school. They have 3 beautiful grandchildren. In 1969, Barbara graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and retired in 2011 from St. Mary’s Hospital in Clayton. Ascension is very fortunate and blessed to have Barbara as our volunteer Parish Nurse.
