In-person Worship Updates

July 28, 2021

Dear people loved by Christ,

As many of you likely know, the City of St. Louis recently implemented Health Commissioner’s Order Number 1. It states that everyone over age five must wear a mask “while in indoor and enclosed public buildings and spaces, and public transportation vessels in the City of St. Louis.” While this new order does mandate the wearing of masks, it makes no mention of increased social distancing.

Ascension’s pastors, elders, and Ministry Council recently met to discuss what this new order means for ministry at Ascension. After prayer and thoughtful discussion, Ascension’s leadership is asking that masks be required at all indoor activities at Ascension—including worship, in accordance with the mandate. This decision was made with a desire to both obey the earthly authorities that God has put in place, as well as to show love for our neighbor and his or her physical well-being.

No other significant changes are being made to our worship practices, seating for worship, or Communion distribution procedure at this time.

Please note that masks will not be required for outdoor events such as, Ascension’s Saturday evening concerts on the lawn. As has been our recent practice, worshipers may eat and drink of Christ’s body and blood during Communion either at the chancel or in their seats.

We all likely have our own opinions concerning this most recent mask mandate. I pray that this issue will not divide us as a church family. I also pray that this issue will not be an opportunity for Satan to distract us from our mission of sharing Christ’s love—with each other—and with our neighbor.

The words of this weekend’s epistle reading from Ephesians 4:2–3 are worth holding in our hearts, as Paul speaks of “bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

Bearing with you in love,

Pastor Matthew Clark, Pastor
Pastor Matthew Kobs, Assistant Pastor

Sep 3, 2021 by     Comments Off on Quarter Auction – October 2    Posted under: What's Happening

WHAT’S MORE FUN THAN A BARREL OF MONKEYS? Why, a Quarter Auction, of course! Mark your calendar for Saturday evening, October 2 at 7:00PM.  (Doors open at 6:15PM)  What is a Quarter Auction? It’s not exactly like Bingo, although you do need to buy a paddle and there will be a cage with balls that are numbered. It’s not exactly like a regular auction, because the bid price is already set, but you do get choose whether or not to bid on a particular item. And it’s definitely not like trivia – no intelligence required!

The paddle price is $10, which allows you to bid on each item. The bids are one, two or more quarters per item, depending on the value of the item. A Golden Paddle is $40, and automatically gives you a bid on each and every item at no additional cost. IF YOU CAN’T ATTEND BUT STILL WANT TO PARTICIPATE: Make arrangements to buy a Golden Paddle in advance, and then your paddle number will be eligible to win all items offered all evening long. If you would like to participate in that way, please contact Lisa Holderle at or call her at 314-962-9979.

Items to be auctioned include toys for kids, restaurant gift cards, Cardinals and Blues memorabilia, books, household goodies, holiday decor, wine and beer baskets, woodwork custom made by Bob Kieffer, and lots more!

You do need to register in advance because spaces are limited. There is a sign-up board in the church lobby, or you can contact Lisa (contact info is above). Invite friends and family, come as a group or come on your own, but be sure to come!  Proceeds benefit “Sharing Christ’s Love” Capital Campaign.
